Gday guys, my problem is what i think they call vapour lock. Im running tripple SU carbs on my 250 2v in XK and when its hot and i pull up at lights then put foot down to go she will stutter and hesitate. Also when switched of feul can squirt from top of rear carb bowl. I have a heat shield but it does not seam to be enough up hear in rockhampton were it gets quite hot . Any ideas would be a grest help.

It's a hot fuel handling problem.

Two Options.

First, It's best eliminated by a blead off line like the XE Falcons ADM 34, with its modified Carter fuel pump, and a return line.

Second, Later SU Carbs had the sometimes troublesome alternative, an HIF6, 7 and 44 variant which had a bi-metalic strip to fix this problem.

Third, a Fuel pressure regulator. With HS6's or HD8's, pressure should be reduced. If it's a biased spring carb, then you need to drop fuel pressure down to 2.5 psi, without hurting the total volume of fuel per minute when operating hard out. The cheap Holley fuel regulators sometimes create a flow restriction, or are unreliable. Years ago, Holdens and Vauxhall PA's (Bathurst 1962 winner with a 2.6 six) had a special Impco pressure reducing diaphram that used to do that. If you get the right one, you can fit it close to the distribution block, and it will work fine.
