my newest project is another 1967 ford falcon 2dr. it has a 200ci pursuit motor accourding to the people i bought it off of. i want this motor to remain stock. before ordering a carter carburetor i did some research and found something that confused me. a artical on the web page http://www.inlinepages.com/~inlinefever ... _swap.html says

Try using a carb off a 200 for your 170 and a carb off a 250 or even a 300 ci six for your 200. I won't go into to much detail about the 300 carb swap that I did to mine, being I had to make a few adjustments to overcome some runnability problems I encountered.

well my question is how do you know what carter you have or got because all of the auto parts stores and carburetor shops only show the 200 as the biggest inline 6 and not the 250 or even 300. Is the Carter 250yf the same as the carter 200yf. thanks for helpping me

Time to find a new parts store! The 250 yf is rated fo more cfm's then a 200. Maybe the parts guy is saying that the largest engine for YOUR car is a 200. Just tell him you have a 78 Granada or something with a 250 and they may be ale to find a carb that way.

I went into a parts store a litte while back and asked for a valve cover gasket for my 68 mustang with a 200. The guy said that anything that old would be special order, so I told him to look up the same part off a 78 granada. It was in stock and he went in back and got it. IT IS THE EXACT SAME PART :!:

Real parts counter guys are hard to find. Most of the time we have to deal with autozoo type guys who only know what the computer tells them!

Am I right in assuming that the part number for a I6 head is 6090?? Example: C1DE 6090-A. Does the suffix "A" indicate a 144cid head?? If that is true then does the suffix "B" indicate a 170cid head or a suffix "C" indicate a 200cid head.

I'm trying to determine what head I have on my 200 I6 engine by using the part no. on the intake manifold. I need this info when I head to the wrecking yards. Is there a web site that explains how to read Ford part numbers??

Because my head is a 1961 I know that it can't be a 200 but I don't know if it is a 144 or a 170. It presently sits proudly on a 200 block and runs terrible.

You need to get a good 250 head on your 200 and get rid of that smaller one. Read the link on the main forum about the head swap.

On my 1966 Aussie 200, the head reads C1UE 6049-A, and is stamped 170 just to the rear of the carb. It has adjustable valve gear without hydraulic lifters.

Could be that the head on mine was swapped, or that there was no change in heads since the first 144 engine rolled out of Canada in October 1959!
