I need some help with these:
I jotted down my casting numbers tonight while doing research to decide how I want to go about rebuilding the engine. Here's what I found:
Block: C8DE-6015-B
Head: C9DE-6090-R
2F29: Which makes no sense, because that would mean a 69 head was cast on 29 June 1962!
According to the 6 Cyl Handbk, the head number indicates that it would be a 1969 Falcon head with Thermactor!
My car is a '68 Montego built at Lorain Assembly on 3/23/68 and DOES NOT have a thermactor. (The air tube holes are plugged.)
Does this mean that at some point the engine, or at least the head, was swapped?
-OR-
They didn't bother to stamp the block with G (Comet/Montego) and they used Falcon(D)destined engines in other cars and the head was stamped for 69, despite being used in 68 and they needed to dip into the early stock for the 69 (although still in mid year production).
ALSO,
I have a spare head taken off a '68 Montego parts car:
C7DE-6080-A
6E21: This makes sense because the parts car was a May build, and that code, if the date, translates to 21 May 66.
Can anyone assist in sorting this out, it is quite an interesting mystery!
Thanks for the help in advance!
Jay
