Cause of Overheating FYI

Les Schwab put on a car show here in the North West this last weekend. It was open to any and all makes and models. I ran into an old hand to inlines at the show sporting a 63 Falcon Convertible. I happened to bring up the method used to support the heater hose to the water pump (leather strap) and the owner Bob, shared with me that years ago Ford had issued a Tech Note to reroute the heater hose lines away from any engine surface. It seems that the coolant in the heater hose would heat up and cause the cooling system to overheat as a whole.

Has anyone heard of this or seen this fix cure there problem?

It may be worth a try, Ric.

Makes sense, but I can't imagine it being bad enough to cause over heating without something else being the real cause. I sounds like a temp fix to cover another problem (kind of like those coolant additives). The cooling system should be able to handle the cooling issues, just people tend to forget that parts need to be flushed and/or replaced every so often. My otherwise stock system with a 3-row radiator has a hard time making the temp raise to the thermostat setting, even idling, in dead traffic, in 95+ weather.
