Would there be any advantage in using a centrifugal advance only type distributor? Is there one available for ford sixes? I ask because I'd like to get rid of the vacuum line.

There would be no advantage to running without vacuum advance other than it would be easier to tune if you just fiddle with one component versus two. Many cars had centrifugal only distributors. However, fuel economy is enhanced and tunability is enhanced with the use of vacuum advance because the distributor is adjusts the advance over a larger performance envelope.
A dual advance distributor can be used and just disconnect the vacuum advance if you want a mech advance distributor only. I do not know if a mechanical only distributor is available for the Ford 6.

If you are running a bigger cam and a larger carb or multiple carbs then a
centrifugal advance distributor maybe what you need, due to lower intake vacuum . Fuel econ may or may not be effected, but it should be better to tune.
Mallory makes a centrifugal advance distributor. Check on E-Bay there is a guy selling Mallory's for $99.00 I bought one from him. It was new in the box the number is MAL-2363001 I have not had a chance to install it yet, but hopefully I will find the time soon
