Hows it coming?? Were you able to figure out why the transmission and flywheel wasnt lining up right??

Actually, once you deduct a $1000.00 dollars for their inflated prices  That price isnt all that far our for a full tilt 6 banger professionally built...

If you can, post a picture or e-mail it to me. I'd like to take a look at it!!

Later,

Doug

Here since the engine is finished I guess for once I can be totally honest..

this will make your friend feel better...

My rear axle and T5 conversion.... $1765.00
Engine and parts.... $6369.00 (and counting....)

Total expenses $8134.00

and I still would never have bought a V8
besides nobody at any local shows will have anything that looks like this....

:) Jimbo, I'm impressed you got away with the rear end and T5 for that much. I suspect growing confidence in the DIY department may have played a part...

So far, I'm at $399.44 for the T-5 conversion. Still to come:

Drive yoke
Drive shaft shortening (not the vegetable shortening- too soft)
U-joints
Seal and gasket kit for trans (I got lucky and got one in good shape-no rebuild)

Finally my buddy got his motor back from Clifford performance. Well I think my friend was kinda crazy for agreeing with Clifford’s with the price of $5,863.50 if I was him I would have freaked cause the original estimate was only $4000.

I don’t know if this comes under more dollars than cents, or for love of the inline six.
I’ve been planning mine for a long time now, collecting parts and researching sources. I just wish I had a $6 to 8K budget.

Addo:
Yeah the DIY part for me was a saving factor on that... I also bought used parts where I could... (Thanks to John for the clutch kit and shifter) and I did the vast majority of the cleanup and everything else myself... the only thing I paid to have done was rebuild the gears and bearings and seals...

As for the rest the most expensive part was parts. My labor on the six for the rebuild was only like $1500.00.... all the rest of that was parts.

As for the budget... realize this is my only car. I put 350.00 dollars a month into a special savings account for the Mustang... (that was my old car payment from three years ago.... I have never missed a month and some months I put more in there...) it adds up really fast... and you would be suprised what you can save that way.

by this time next year I should have about 5K for the paint and some metal work... which is the last "major" thing I have to do.... and when I am all done I will have about 20K in the Stang... show me a 20K car you can buy new that will be as nice and cool as this car? This was all part of the original plan when I bought the car. (take five years and 20K and rebuild my new car)
