In my quest to salvage my 69 Falcon wagon and head sealing problems, some people mention the thicker composite head gasket. Most parts catalogs don't tell you if the gasket is steel shim or composite. Who can give me a manufacturer and part number? Should sealant be used as directed in the 69 shop manual. The FelPro steel gasket said no sealant, no re-torque. I'm going to make one more try before selling it. I'll post when it goes up on e-bay. Now I have kind of over spent and can't do much more without cash. thanks.....Johnny

Hwdy Back Johnny:

Did you ever check the dead and block surfaces for flatness?

THe Rare FoMoCo service composite head gasket typically measures .037" thick.

NAPA Victor #3910 VC composite measures .044" thick.

Felpro #7916 PT-1 composite measure .050" Thick.

The composites seal much better then the OEM steel shim gaskets and don't need sealant.

Good luck.

Adios, David

I have not pulled the head off again. I was not going to bother, sell it as is and take the loss. I have a little more energy today, if it holds out I will try over the weekend. Those part numbers are exactly what I needed! Thanks a whole bunch..........Johnny
