Compression Ratio by Decking Block or Heads

I love this site. When I was tinkering as a kid all I had was a Chilton and my Dad. I just measured the bore and stroke after puttin all new bearings in to get my displacement and all measurements came to within 5/10,000s of what I expected them to be for the work done. with a cheap Pittsburgh caliper. I'm anxious to get my head back so I can cc the chamber and see what I'm making. I'm measuring a felpro gasket thickness (using the old head gasket) of .045. Does this sound about right to y'all?

Howdy:

Ledslinger- A new Felpro head gasket typically measure .055" and can vary some depending on where you take the measurement. The compressed thickness, using standard head bolt torque is usually in the .050" area. If the head bolts were tighter than stock torque specs, the gasket will crush more, so your measurements could be in the ball park. I would suggest that you take several measurements in several different locations too.

Adios, David
