It could be that you are looking at the wrong hole? Some radiators have fittings for an internal transmission cooler. If you don't have them connected, then you have what looks like and empty hole where a plug should be. If it's not that, then I'm stumped.

My radiator has a drain resembling a wing nut. There is also a coolant drain on the block behind the header. Hard to get to, but another option.

I agree, it's more than likely your tranny cooler, not hooked up. If you really want to flush it, remove the hoses and back flush as much as possible.

:D What you wanna bet there is so much crap in the radiator, that the drain hole is PLUGGED.Have NEVER seen a drain plug for the tranny cooler. You want to drain the tranny cooler, remove the lines going to it.And yes,I have seen at least 40 or 50 radiators that were so full of crap that the drain cock was TOTALLY plugged.

I think they meant that he was mistaking the transmission cooler nipple for the petcock. If you take my meaning.

exactly.

dude i back flushed the engine and took off the lower hose to see if anything would come out but all that came out was the greenish water and no slug or rust

the drain hole in located behind the manifold (or header for you lucky ones) the shop manual says to unscrew the screw but there is no screw and the picture in the book shows a screw

does this mean that there is nothing in the engine's coolant that is hard to believe cuz when i got the car i tested the coolant to see how thin it was and there was just green colored water in it and it was sitting for at least three years with that water

i expected to see tons of rust and particles but nothing was there am i doing something wrong???

oh i used a garden hose to flush the water is that enough pressure to flush the coolant and when do i know when i am done flushing??

What is this drain plug on the radiator??(i stopped the water before it hit the radiator)

Thanks for the comments guys

ive got a maverick so it might be a little diffrent but at the lower pasangerside of my radiator, facing the engine bay is a wing nut that is the drain plug for the radiator. but it sounds like your on the right track

the green water coming out is antifreez(hopefully ) you should have a 50/50 mix of antifreez to regular water, unless your using the pre-mixed antifreez. if so use 100% pre-mixed. antifreez also stops the water from rusting out the engine so if the block has been sitting it still shouldnt be bad as far as dirt build up. let a engine sit a few years with just water in it and youd have a serious rust problem. there are block flush products avaliable at parts stores you could try too

goodluck

It doesn't have left handed threads, you just have to turn it in for the valve to open, as opposed to loosening it by turning it out. =P

Seems normal. When I first got my car I flushed the cooling system and it was all rust and chunks. I refilled it and then flushed it again FOUR YEARS LATER! Guess what: Nice green clean coolant.

Take a piece of wire and poke up in the coolant drain hole in the block. It is not uncommon for it to be plugged with rust. Then flush it clean.

i will try that but it seems so weird to be so clean in there

Oh, I forgot all about that drain on the engine block. No need to take it out. The one on the radiator is what you need, but if you pull the lower rad hose it is useless. It's just a little less messy and a lot slower anyhow. They also have a tendancy to break off.

dude i am not going to the radiator i am going out the lower hose not in the radiator

are you suppose to run the engine when you flush it??

or is the engine suppose to be off??

i will wait for you guys to comment about this cuz i don't know what will happen, will something in the engine brake if i do that??

thanks
