COOLING QUESTIONS

Gidday , ive got a question for the lads regarding cooling.
ive got a XF falcon radiator with twin 12" electric fans and 1 thermatic control ,the question is whats the best way to wire in these fans .Do i use 2 x relays or run 1 x high amp relay . part 2 whats the best position for mounting fans ,in front of rad with heavy modification of front or on the back with heaps of room .The reason i ask is theres a lot of pros and cons been thrown around the office at the moment, so i thought id throw it out to the masses for expert comment. Any one got a wiring diagram ?
Man i cant wait to be on the road again without that bloody flex fan, the thing sounds like your pulling 5000rpm and your only doin 2500rpm .
Im supposedly getting the digital camera for xmas (finally) so i will post some new pics and some pics of what can happen to a crossflow cam shaft with gear wear problems .
cheers dave

I have read that the fan will be 30% more efficient behind the rad. If you have a/c you might want one of the fans to come on with it and the other to come on by temp.

Dave,
can I make a suggestion.
Im not a big fan of electric fans. No pun intended.
What about the XF water pump and the clutch fan from that model with the appropriate plastic fan shroud.
If you must go the electric fans.
I would wire them both up to ignition on power only.
And both at different temperatures to come on.
One if the engine started to run hot. The other if it gets beyond a certain limit. That is how the manufacturers set up multiple cooling fans.
Yes one to come on with the air conditioning.
But with the clutch fan, it does all this by itself, all the time.
The clutch fans work better than a standard fan at low speeds and only roar when temperatures are high and are pulling lots of air through the radiator.
I have pulled off a standard fan from my XD for a clutch fan and the noise difference was incredable.
These fans are also self speed limited. So they cannot over rev with the engine.
Have I said enough?
Noel.

Behind the radiator is best, but in front will do too. I just deleted my original mechanical fan and attached a 16" in front of my radiator (and a/c condensor) with a large amount of fabrication successfully. It's cooling it just fine. I used one relay only. For two fans, I think one is still ok with a large enough amperage.
