couple of user questions for searches

hopefully, other new users will benefit from this too:
I'm trying to narrow down my searches (and bug you guys a little less), for example I'm trying to search for "air cleaner" issues. I type in - air AND cleaner - trying to get only posts with both words in the post. Doesn't seem to work. How to do this properly?

I've tried to search for a posting author, jaymers, for example. The search returns no results. Pretty sure I have the author correct as I've read many of his posts. What am I missing?

thanks.

If you want air cleaner as a single element, you need to put quotes around it: "air cleaner". Otherwise you get every reference to 'air' and 'cleaner'.

I've tried to search for a posting author, jaymers, for example.

As for this one, you have to spell the name correctly: jamyers. The best way to do this is click and copy if it is a long one, on the order of cwiffowdthebigwedtwuck for example.

Otherwise, try one word at a time (gets large result) or something more specific in your boolean search: e.g. air+cleaner+ram, "disc brake" + swap, EFI + NOS.
