D8 head carb adaptor

Ok, this has probably been adressed, but what adaptor do i need for a D8 head and a holley 2300 series 350cfm carb? Clifford lists an adaptor for a Holley 2bbl w/ a 3 5/8" stud center, but the D8 head has a 3 5/16" stud center.... and then they have a "you drill it" adaptor for a 300 cid engine, part# 08-1600, but it seems to me that if this was used, it would put the carb at a strange angle. And then to confuse me even MORE, mustangs and fords ran an article on I6's and said that the 08-1600 adaptor was indeed for 200 cids! So what do i need? Im so confused....

When i called Clifford about this very same thing I was told it is either the big spaceing of the small spaceing. I don't remember the specs or #'s but basically the smaller spaceing is the earlier head w/ smaller carb bore and the larger the later. hesitantly i ordered the larger for my D-8 and it fit just fine, and you are correct, the size they sell is not a center to center spaceing but they don't know or believe this.
