All,

Yesterday, I had to pull my Dampener/Crank Pully (single groove) from my 250 (Aussie) I-6 engine. Much to my surprise/horror, it was missing a retaining bolt and washer that the manual clearly showed and told me to remove before removing the pully. Yipes.. not sure how concerned I should be about that..

In any case, can someone tell me where I should get these things? Since I have no old set to compare with, I don't know what length, thread size, washer dia. etc. etc. Can I just go into my local Autozone and ask for those things?

Any and all help greatly apprecaited.

Thanks, in advance.

Makoto

That'll be a junkyard part. The US sixes should share bolt and washer specifications. Good to find it this way, not when it did some damage.

Cheers, Adam.

ok.. I'll go check for that.. thanks a bunch... will it matter if I pull it off of a single grooved pully or not?

Also... what _could_ it have done to me? I'm curious to know what I avoided..

Single, double, extra groovy with triple cheese - shouldn't matter.

I recently saw the results of a balancer "walk" on a Triumph Dolomite Sprint. But these do run at higher RPM than a six. It first created an annoying vibration that ruined the front crank bearing, then chewed the oil seal. At this stage it was an undiagnosed annoyance/leak. Then it came forward and destroyed the radiator, and as it slipped out of contention, chewed up the crank nose. Lucky the guy had a spare motor (that in the words of his tech) turned out "indecently fast".

Adam.

Thanks a mil, Addo... will hit the junk yard later this week..

OH YEAH.. how do I get this balancer back on? Will the retaining bolt/washer carry it in as I tighten it, or do I have to whack on it with a mallet or something like that?

Ensure the mating surfaces are clean and smeared with anti-seize, and wind it on with the "new" bolt and washer. You'll be set. Torque is about 80-100, I think.

madmax...if you ifnd a second in good condition...I'll take it and make it worth your while. I dont wanna spend another $60+ on a new one right now
