die grinders

so, i'm gettin' ready to locate a '77 or later head and spend lots of hours grinding away the crap the factory left in the way of the fresh and spent fuel. any tips on the best grinder to purchase? looking thru various tool catalogs i see 1/4'die grinders that spin 22,000, and also these 1/8" pencil or micro grinders that'll do 56,000 rpm. what about bits? reglar old stones and flap wheels?

thanks

a dremel or similar with a flexshaft is the best bet cause the flexshaft will allow u to have more controll and more precision, there are plenty of bits available for it and u can use it for quite a few chores. some shaped stones and some sanding rolls of a few different grit is what u want, u can buy prepackaged abrasive kits which probably has everything u need...and speeds are adjustable which is nice from about 5,000 to 56,000

Get the 1/4" Pneumatic grinder with a carbide cutter that's shaped like a bullet. Take you time. This thing will chew up a head in no time. Then move to the sand paper rolls.

Will is right. Die grinder is the best. However, it will chew up a head fast. The dremel with a flex shaft is a little more low key. It'll take a little longer, but you don't risk mega damage if you have a slip of the hand. Here is what I was able to accomplish in just 4 hours with a dremel and abrasive kit:

Granted, it isn't perfect and 10 more hours would have been nice, but I really just did it as I was waiting for some parts.

One last thing to remember, speed kills, bits that is. Keep the grinder bit speed around 10krpm and it will cut cleaner, and last longer, than if you spin it as fast as you can.
