i am in the process of putting a 1979 200 in a 1963 falcon. i have followed falcon performance handbook since the begining of this swap. my problem is when you take the oil pan from the 63 falcon the oil sump is in the front of the engine and the fairmont is in the back of the motor. so when you put the dip stick in it hits bottom of oil pan. if i put 5 qts of oil in the motor and then modify the dip stick will enough oil be in that area to read on the stick. if not what do i do thanx. cocacolaman

cocacolaman,

If you look at the block, there are two places that a dipstick can mount. The fox bodies used a rear sump pan, and the earlier cars used a front sump. What you need to do is knock the plug out of the front hole, pull the tube out of the back, move it to the front hole, and plug the rear hole.

The tubes can be very tight, but they are just pressed in.

thanx for the input. did just as you said, tube was a bit hard to get out as you said. after i got out the tube i found a drill bit the same size as the hole, cut off a small piece of the smooth end and the apllied a small portion of the good ole jb weld around to hold it in. hope that works thanx again cocacolaman

Just make sure that the fit is VERY tight on that chunk of drill bit. I'd hate to think of what a piece of metal like that could do if it dropped into the engine. Probably just drop into the pan, but who knows?

this is why you occasionally come across a 6 with 2 dipsticks( which is the route i'm taking just for sh!ts and grins). 2 little chrome dipstick handles on the left side--looks very balanced LOL.

actualy had to tap drill bit in with hammer. very snug fit. the jb weld was really just to cover up small piece of drirll bit sticking out. after i painted over with engine paint you could not even tell it was there.
