Dual Carbs on Log Manifold

This was originally posted in response to another question, but ....

As a prior owner of a 66 Mustang w/ a 200, dual 2 barrels is something I thought about a lot. Does anyone know what other 2 barrel carb choices would make sense? Years ago, I thought about two small Dellortos/other carbs used in eiethr VW or 240Z applications. Are there any baby Webers or other carbs that are sized right? Also, rather than milling the carb holes on top of the manifold, has anyone tried milling the openings on the side, and using side drafts?

This is something I'll never use personally (I now have a 57 Chevy Wagon). But I do read the forum daily - and jump on the manifold/carb postings whenever I see them.

and simultanoeus 38 series 5200 Holley Weber based carbs are very easy to mount on the log head if you can work through the linkage.

BMW and Mercedes did it with the Solex and 38DGAS carbs in the 1970's, but it was not a great sucess because there was no progressive throttle action.

In Japan, Australia and Europe, the Ford Laser Sport/ Mazda 323GT ran emissions spec twin 2-bbl carbs with very strong secondary action which allowed the 85 hp engines give a large boost in power with very, very frugal fuel use at part throttle. Up to 52 imperial miles per gallon with these on the open road at about 55 mph. Thats almost 63 mpg from a performance 1500 cc engine!

The use of two Aisin carbs from the Ford Courier truck, made out to this spec, would work very well on a Mustang Geezer Special intake manifold. The 32/36's or 5200 Holley~Weber would be the same. Nice and lean at part throttle, then right enough for 250 hp at wide open throttle.

The log intake only needs a couple of special Clifford style adaptors on a Carter twin carb-style intake like the Geezer has on his website. Placeing the discharge points 8.16" appart at between cylinders 2 and 3 , and 4 and 5 will solve all the distribution problems noted as issues on very hard hauling 1-bbl Henries. It would also stop the burn-downs turbo engines could suffer from becasue of the sharp 90 degree bends which allow mixture to cylinders 2 and 5 to over shoot the mark and end up in cylinders 1 and 6. Cylinders 3 and 4 allwas get there fill.
 
On the logs I've looked inside, there were little "knobs" either side of 2&5 runners. I assumed these were to avoid the overshoot problems you mention. They'd probably have to go on a bi-carb setup...

A 2V manifold set in the style of that slant six rig would be a good idea!
