Duraspark II Problem

I have just installed a DS2 module in by 68 Mustang and the car won't start. I have checked all the connections on both sides, checked and rechecked the wiring to make sure everything is correct. I have found the problem but don't know how to fix it, the negative side of the coil will only provide a ground that yields .134 volts when run through a meter. I thought it was the module so I purchased a second one and ther results are the same.

Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Blake

The negative post on your coil is modulated by the module. I'm surprised you get a reading without the motor running.

Assuming you've 12V at the positive side, and into the module. Test continuity of the pickup in the distributor. Check module and engine grounding.

Your coil itself should show low resistance between the two small posts, and much higher resistance between the coil body and the centre socket. You can crudely test the coil by attaching the coil lead to a spark plug on the far end, and with 12V to the positive post, jumping the negative post to ground for a split second. Should get nice fat sparks.

In summary - if the coil checks out, and you have continuity in the pickup, then the harness or module is at fault...

No start? or no spark? Addo is going on the no spark theory. Do you have a timing light and dwel tach meter?

Does the duraspark module ground through its case or through a wire? Im not sure but maybe for a test run a known good ground to the case to be sure. I see there is a ground pin in the dizzy harness. Im not sure if that is to ground the dizzy inards or ground for the module.

Good Luck

All,

Thanks for the reply, I found the problem when I was removing the entire duraspark II set up for a GM four wire. The harness from the module plug to the distributor and the coil was from a 75 with duraspark I. While it plug directly in to the module the purple and black wires where swapped. I will re-wire the harness tonight and try again.

Again thanks for the response,

Blake
