Entering diag mode on an EB-I?

Just bought s timing light and among the many other problems I found once I lifted the bonnet, I realised I have nfi how to put the car into diag mode. I don't have one of those handy test ports next to the fuses - only relays. There's a connector at the end of a loom on the driver's side towards the back of the engine bay; do I just short top and bottom on the LHS?
 
NOPE...... there is a grey plug with a single wire i think u need to earth this out, Its written on the sticker on the engine bay im 99 percent sure its written on that sticker..... DONT short out any pins in the large connector

Bloody thing... timing light I bought is one of those el cheapo red LED jobs, can't see a damn thing :\
