ok i looked at the neutral safety switch and it was plugged in so i unhooked and saw there was a prong missing so i took and splice a new plug on there from one of my old ignition modules. plugged it in and turned the key and it started turning over but all it did was backfire like "blub blub blub".so i thought the distributer was 180 off so i flipped it 180. after i flipped it and tried to start it again and it turned over twice and the power cut out and then turned over again and the power cut out then i noticed it was the positive battery terminal wire smoking so i thought i wired the starter relay backwards because the one i bought today wasn't the same as the motorcraft one that was in there before so i changed the wires and tried to start it again and it just kept burning the positive terminal wire. the new starter relay has 2 smaller posts 1 labeled "I" and the other one labeled "S" the original starter relay only had one. please help me some one. sorry it is so long.

The small terminal labelled "S" goes to your ignition keyswitch. The one labelled "I" provides a temporary 12 volts to the ignition coil until the key is released (when it drops back to running with the ignition resistor).

Testing with your multimeter, the one labelled "I" is permanently bridged (inside) to one of the big terminals. This terminal will be the one going to your starter.

Cheers, Adam.
