My dad lives near Sale Vic, and my brother lives near Sydney in Penrith. I've been there to visit 3 times and loved it. Last time was a year ago and the Turbo straight 6 was just coming out. I didn't see one on the road though. Can it kick the Holden V8s A--? Is Ford selling the newer supercharged Mustang Cobra down there? And will they sell the new Mustang thats coming out in March or April? Anyone have some Mustang brochures they can sell me or do a trade? Boyd in cold Minnesota.

Small world, eh? In Ryde (Sydney), I would be about 25-30 miles from your brother. As for the 6 vs V8 comparison, it would likely be tight. My reasoning: The V8 guys who are serious have invested heavily in their motors, and there's quite a lot of them. Most of the Ford 6 turbo drivers seem content with the power/performance ex-factory - most, not all. So a probable match is a modded 350 vs a near-stock 240T. That's why it's tight.

Adam.

It seems that the XR6 Turbo is 'on par' with GM's LS1 V8, in 235kW SS trim, and 255kW ClubSport spec. It'll definitely show a few things whats coming with a performance chip, 400hp is a simple chip upgrade away.. I haven't really been following XR6T performance, but http://www.fullboost.com.au should have some quarter mile and dyno information on whats possible from the DOHC 4.0.

I dont think we ever got the Mustang Cobra here (not including grey market), and Ford AU haven't imported any mustangs for the local market for more than 18 months, simply because they didn't sell. I believe there are still Mustangs sitting in dealerships around australia. I dont believe there are any plans to bring any Mustangs into the country to be sold in Ford dealerships. F-series is a different story, though..

that include the '05? how excited are people down there gettin 'bout that one?
just curious

Hello Boyd,

In regards to your question regarding if ford is still going to be importing the mustangs to Australia, I believe not, going by what I have read they have decided to stop importing them due to poor sales, not suprising considering they were around $90,000 new. The new BA GT Falcon retails less than that.

In regards to the BA XR6turbo what I have read so fare is that it is quicker than the XR8's, not sure about the GT model though. If you are interested in the turbo falcons you can check this site out http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/ Hope this of interest to you.

Also I have a question for you that you may be able to help me with, how much roughly would a 69/70 model fastback mustang go for in the states, doesnt have to be a show car, but in reasonably good condition?

the xr6 turbo is a beast the modded ones are running 11's 11.73 @125.9mph according to the current street machine magazine

Yeah a friend of mine works for Formoco and advises the Mustang wouldn't sell down here. I think most Australians don't see American cars as good value.

Not sure if it's a value thing, really. What would be the market, is more likely? You'll never tear Monaro owners from the Holden breast, and the practicality of the XR6/8 fordor appeals to many. If anything, there should be full-house wagons to match the Falcon sedans. The people who drive rarer imported coupes, whether Nissan, Mercedes, Jaguar, whatever, are not going to look at a mass producer's product either.

Cheers, Adam.
