Does anyone know if Amsoil has friction modifiers in it? Apparently Mobil 1 15-50 SJ oil doesnt appart from the usual zinc.
From what Ive read of different articles many of the Additives/friction modifiers used by manafactures and added some times by consumers afterwards are only really effective if suspended in the oil. Apart from the residual plating effect that some claim. (Even in one of the very best plating products this effect was proven to have a very minimal effect on friction). It works best when it is suspended in a solution.
All this is assumes that the oil has a good viscosity shear rating which keeps it with the oil on the cylinder walls ect. Otherwise many of these modifiers would be mostly useless.
Others have said the Friction Modifiers are used in oil in the event that scuffing occurs (metal to metal contact).
Suprsingly this is often not said to occure that often under normal circumstances and is more a problem with high performance applications. (or maybe a new engine).
