I've been talking with a few of my closest friends about such a project. I have a 63 delivery available as a project car and thought it would be perfectly suited to such a build. Budget and economy.

It will probably be the next one I tackle, after the 69 and 66 are finished up. I just picked up the block for the 66 today. Bored 40 over, forged pistons, fully balanced, ARP bits, 278-112 cam, roller rockers, CI head, naturally aspirated with EFI. Not sure if I'll use a single TBI or trips. I only went with 9:1 C/R as someday I want to develop a bolt on S/C kit.

Any progress? My goal is effortless and economic cruising on long road trips. This Summer I plan to see my son in LA. With the price of gas, I'd like to reduce travel costs for fuel. I'd also like to exted my range (besides putting in a larger gas tank). :?

my 250 comet is my no thrills dailt driver and i'd like to keep her as economical as possible.

the maverick and all my oher cars tho, its HP all the way 8)

My theory (and I'm sticking with it) is that for about any given car, if it's well tuned it'll give you both power and economy. Now, those are obviously relative terms, because it'd be silly for me to expect my Ranchero to boil the tires halfway down the block, just like it'd be silly of me to expect the Buick to get 20+ mpg.

My goal with all my cars is that they get as much out of a gallon of gas as possible, both in terms of power and economy. If I want power, I drive the Buick. If I want economy, I drive the Ranchero. If I *really* want economy, I drive the wife's '01 LeSabre and get 33hwy.

I love driving and the price of gas is not going to keep me from enjoying my cars. On the stock six in my Capri I've gone from a 1bbl carb and 2.79 gears in the back to a demon carb with 3.45 gears the only other change being a summit street strip coil and cd box. My last ave. for city driving was 22 mpgs and I just put 100 miles on a 1/4 tank running 75 on the highway. :D I can't wait to see what my headers will do.
Oh yah I forgot to say thats with my stock c4 tranny. :D

200 :D and I don't baby it. I hit 4500 rpm all the time, usually run about 3500 rpm on the hiway
