Fuel line questions

Seeing as I am At wits end with my carb issues, I remembered reading that Weber carbs like lower fuel pressure...around 3-4 pounds.

I know I am grabbing at straws here, but Holly makes a variable fuel pressure regulator that goes from 1 to 4 pounds. Here is the link http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=1463&prmenbr=361

Since our fuel line is a 5/16" preformed line. How would I go about installing this? Would I just change the preformed line to a rubber line? The regulator uses 3/8" NPT fittings.

I'm not a big fan of rubber lines: underhood temperatures quickly turn them into leaks.

You can rebend the fuel lines (metal ones), but gently, so they don't kink. Or, get a cheap tubing bender (renting is $5/day) and do the reroute. If you need to change line sizes, do it about halfway between the pump and carb, using those brass inline fittings like you'll find at Home Depot's Plumbing aisle. They can withstand 100 PSI and will take those hot days in stride. Don't make a short coupling of a different size right near the carb, as this will invite vapor locking. You want the joint to be in a more-or-less vertical orientation when installed.
