I just called a guy on craigslist that is parting out a 1990 Chev with 4.3 V6, he will sell me the TBI, wiring harness and ECM for $75. What else would I need aside from replumbing the fuel system and fuel pump to make this work? Should I grab all the sensors? (temp/MAP) I ain't grabbing that O2.. forget it. Or am I better off buying new replacements?

And what is the going rate these days for something like this? Supposedly it was a running truck before it 'blew up' so I can't verify that it works/worked.. I countered with $50. He stood his ground at $75 claiming that you can't buy just a TBI for less than that, I will try again for $60 if I go over there, since he is making me pull the components and the crusher value is less than $5...

He plans on crushing it today unless I commit.
Parting Out 90 CHEVY Pickup (Fgo)

thoughts? concerns? links to working transplants?

thanks,

I would go for $75 only if he lets you grab everything you want. A free for all. He only getting so much for the whats left of the truck regards of what you take. Get it all you can always either replace sensors later if they don't work, use them until they die. Does the rail have any real value to us straight six users? Has anyone thought of using 1/2 plmb copper for a rail? What connects the rail to the injector?

Whatchu talking about with a rail? The TBI (Throttle Body Injectino) is a fully inclusive Throttle Body with the injectors and fuel pressure regulator built right into it. you hook up a high pressure inlet line from the pump and a return to the other connection. No rail, no individual injectors. It is a carburator replacement type situation. Wet manifold, not dry like a MPFI (Multip Port fuel Injection) which has 1 injector for each cylinder.

FWIW, he sounded amenable to letting me grab everything that I want off the vehicle, its just going to get curshed anyhow...

No, I agree that I need an O2, but a nasty welded/rusted in place one from an old pickup.. the source is questionable and I don't want to lay in mud to get it out. I have a 1 wire GM one sitting at home (somewhere) that I bought by accident years ago.

I tried calling the guy back to see if I could extend his crusher deadline but he didn't answer..

Well he crushed that one before I got back to him, he must have been in a rush or needed some cash for the weekend? At any rate he said that he will have another 4.3L Blazer getting parted out real soon and that I could have dibs on that EFI system for the same price if I am still interested.

He may be a little bit off kilter though.. I asked about whether he parts out any Ford 4.9L and he said that he doesn't usually have anything that NEW. Um, ya... I had to explain the difference between a 4.6 and a 4.9L... my high hopes of finding cheap EFI exhaust manifolds was crushed..
