In e-mail exchanges with Stovebolt, the idea was suggested by them to use a GM Varajet carb on an Oz head. Bigger flow, still progressive.

Anyone know about these carbs- Bolt pattern, tuneability, general maintenance reptuation, etc? Mulling over wether I should go with the proven 32/36, or go out on a limb with something a little different.

Afirmative. The French made Rochester Varajet is basically half a Quadrajet. The device is very economical, and there exists calibrations from 80 hp on the 1.9 liter Starefire to 125 hp from Austraila from there 202 Holdens made from 1980 to 1985. Some of the US Citation 660 X-cars ran to 145 hp.

They are hard to tune, won't fit without an adaptor, and may not be the best option becasue of the split internal runners the 2v intake has.

Better bet is to follow Addos advice, and get a Rochester 2jet, 2GC, or Carter 2-bbl from a 318. Other options is 38 Weber, 350 or 500 Holley or the good old Autolite 1.08 2100 2-bbl.
