Going Price of 200 Motors

Well I searched around but did not find a topic on this. Sorry if this is out there already.

The 200 in my 66 mustang needs a rebuild but I noticed the head also has a crack in it. I found a local person selling a 200 out of a 67 that has the rotating assembly, head, push rods and rocker arms that they want to sell.

Now I really only need the head but they are offering me the motor for $100. I assume this is a good price but wanted to see what the going rate is for these motors just to make sure.

Thanks!
Mike

i believe we've had a few members get them for free
the 200 is an engine that most people just plain don't want, so they get rid of it as best they can

from a JY though, i'd expect to pay about $150
but from a private owner, who knows how much? $100 sounds pretty reasonable, you might be able to show up with $80 though

just noticed, you're going from a '66 engine, to a '67?
the bellhousing bolt pattern might be different between those two, you might want to look into that

There have just been a bunch of strings about engines for sale and WTB posts from eBay and Craig and such. Check out the 'eBAy' and the 'Buy, Sell, Trade' rubric.

I think I averaged $100 for the 3 I bought a year or two ago. Some complete with transmission. Some missing parts. Some full of water. Got some good parts out of the deal so I think I did ok.

The 67 motor will interchange with your 66 engine no problem.I think $100 for a runnning motor is a good deal ,obviously free is best but if you need it,What's $100 in the grand scheme of things.

In my case they were all 'running fine when pulled'. Stay away from anything that was stored outside under a tarp and engines without air cleaners or exhaust manifolds. The more of that stuff that is missing the more chance for all sorts of things to get into the motors.

he does just need a head, so it's possible he could just snag that and use the other to build it up
