Got the motor in but not all hooked up - Question on clearan

Well got the tripower motor in the 61 and am using a 66 block and worked 82 head. I am running a 66 bell, pressure plate and 3 speed tranny for now.
It seems there are very close tolerances from bell to firewall. If the engine movrs too much, the bolts will be bouncing off the firewall. The trans was a PITA to get in because of it too. Is this common on the early falcon/comets?
Also, the stupid belcrank for the accelerator seems to be too close to the tripower linkage. Is there a cable kit out there, or does the belcrank need to be bent up a little bit?

I cannot help as mine is auto. We did have to massage the firewall a bit where it slopes on the drivers side. Would messing with the motor mounts help?

I had more trouble with achieving fan clearance in the front.

Keep us posted...

I can see what you mean about the fan clearance. That's going to be tight too. I have some pics of the work so fan, and I have a question on starters.
Here are the pics

Seems like the 3 bolt starters are all over the place, but the 2 bolt ones seem harder to come by (at Pep Boys and Auto Zone at least) I'll have to try NAPA Monday.
Question: Can the starter be put in the car with a Cliffy Dual Out Shorty installed?

Pictures are great!

I used the starter referenced by 63Comet in this thread http://fordsix.com/forum/viewtopic.php? ... ht=starter

I don't know if it will work for you as he and I have the low mount, but it sure helps on space. Do you already have the header? I think that is the correct one. My problem again was with the low mount starter. If you don't have the header yet I recomend you contact Mike @ forsixparts.com. I tried every header he had and one I got off ebay without success. In the end he suggested modifying the original Pacemaker. We cut it off as short as possible, heated and bent the pipes to to the correct position. I then sent it back to him for coating. He is having headers produced from this which should fit all applications.

Try sitting your rad in place to see what your dealing with on the fan. Ultimately my research ala Rickwrench and Nor Cal Mike led me to a Chevy S10 rad. It requires a bit of fabrication but is a real solution, basically it fits between the upper and lower braces allowing you to move the rad forward from it current position.

Hi Don,
I bought Cliffy headers last year and they seem to be a pretty good fit except that one of the outlets seems to come close to the pitman arm when the wheel is cut to the right.
I have plenty of room for the radiator, so I lucked out there.
One other thing I ran in to, is the eqaulizer bar and rod to the clutch fork.
Seems like it no longer reaches. I'm having a freind add an inch to the push rod thing that pushes the clutch fork.
I'm also having a hell of a time getting hooked up witha starter. I have that in another post I started today.

Like I say 'No One says it was going to be easy'

What type of carbs are those? I have the Offy adapter but still haven't commited to carbs yet!!!

Hi Mugsy,
Those are Holley #1908's Can't say I'd recommend them, I just had some lying around. They have a high failure rate, but they are easy to come by. I think they can draw about 150 cfm each.
I have some old chrome air horns from Badger. I still have to make screens for them. I was looking at the elements used in the Weber Velocity Stacks, but I don't think they would work.

Jim,

I had to loosen my Clifford header on my 66 to get the starter in and out. It was very fun let me tell you.

Boy,

I can already see this will be a learning experience.
I should have done my research at this site before starting this project.
Maybe I'd be up and running by now and have enough money left over to fill the tank (for a year)!

I tried finding a smaller starter. I did some research on using a starter out of an explorer and such, even brought a couple of them home, and nothing bolted up right. Sucks too, because that 2 bolt starter weighs like 10 pounds, it kills your back leaning into the car to mess with it.
