All Small Six Happened Upon This Distributor

This relates to all small sixes
It appears to the same as one I have used. They are ok, but I felt that the advance curve was wrong for the car. Most here seem to prefer DSII units. I also have a programmable distributor from Progressive Ignition that I'm going to try out.

I have a '68 distributor and I was just wondering if that option would be better. I thought about trying to find a DSII at my local "U-Pull-It" because I dang sure can't afford any of the options on Vintage Inlines. But who even knows if I can find one. So I was thinking that this ebay distributor might be an economical way to upgrade to something (at least) better than I have.
I understand your situation. My car came with a Load-O-Matic in poor condition and a bad carb. The MIC unit got me going quickly. Very shortly, I'll have my car into the new garage and won't need the distributor. Msg me with your address info and I'll send it to you.
I'll also send the power relay with notes on how to install it.
Speaking from big6 experience, all of the HEI distributors are curved for a Chevy, which takes more advance due to the chamber design. Even ones that claim to be curved for a Ford have proven to not be. Then if you go to recurve it, the weights and springs are unknown origin, and finding accurate replacements proved impossible. It's a Chevy distributor except for the outer housing so it fits. Personally, I vote "no", don't get that.
If you like your current distributor, adding a TFI module is a great solution in my humble opinion. 1) no change to the stock distributor, or the current advance curve and base timing. 2) points conduct 12 milliamps of current, so last forever. 3) Coil has full 12v, so a much hotter spark.
I've got two vehicles with this set up and it's been flawless for a good while now.

Yes, good info vssman. My vote above is not directly applicable, since it was for the 300. They do not work well without mods on that engine. Glad to hear it's good on your 200. . I like the tidy coil-in-cap design, but after fighting the curve for several years, when the Summit HEI came out of my 300 it was retired permanently.
