Head casting ID?

64 inboard

I found two NOS heads for sale, the receipt is dated 1969... Asking price is $200 each.
one head has casting # C6DE 6090J
the other has casting #C6DE 8090B

I gather these are circa 1966, so I assume they have the smaller valves?

What do the 4 digits and the letter behind stand for? Can you tell what they actually to be used on? Any thoughts?

Howdy Back:

"6090" is FoMoCo speak for cylinder head(s). The suffix letters is an engineering casting code, which has yet to be completley deciphered. The "8090" is probably a miss read of the 8 for a 6.

THe C6DE translates to - "C" = decase of the sixties, 6 -indicates the year in the decade, "D" indicates that it is a Falcon part, however the "D" castings appears in all vehicles with a 144, 170, 200 and 250 engines. The last letter, "E" refers to engineering dept. in this case "Engine".

Both of thes are '66 casting codes. The one with the "J" suffix is likely a latter casting, but it is unlikely you will be able to see any difference between the two. Both will have 1.69" intake valves, non-hardened seats, small carb hole, and 52 cc chamber volumes.

These are not a good buy for a starter head to have rebuilt for you boat engine. Sorry.

Adios, David
