HEI with Power Steering?

Newbie here. I have read many previous posts over the past couple of days about swapping out old stock distributor for new HEI type set ups, but I don't recall seeing anything about a set up that will work with power steering and all the problems related to clearance issues with the HEI units. If there is a set up that works best, that wont require me to ditch the power steering, please let me know. I have seen on Ebay "small cap" units that work with external coils and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with those ?

My motor is a stock 200, large log, ( 1970) transplanted into a 66 Mustang. Other mods will include adapting a 2 barrel carb. Already have the split header dual exhaust.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can forward,

You could just use one of the Dura Spark II distributors if clearance is still too tight use the Dura Spark I cap and rotor. Good luck

Hi Bubba,
Thanks for the advice. DSII seems to be the best option. Just curious...how wide is the DSII cap and how tall is the entire set up from where the disti seats to the block to the tip of the cap?

:bang: good question sorry don't have a DSII cap here to measure the width I think they are about 4 inches, the DSI caps are the same size as a standard points distributor cap. The height is also about the same as the old stock points distributors if not exactly the same. I have swapped these DSII parts into many Ford cars and trucks without issues, maybe 1966_I6 in the above post can give you a measurement from his Mustang. Good luck

I have power steering with the old Thompson (Thompsen?) pump and DSII on my 250. Clearance is close but works fine.
