I feel a little silly asking this, but here goes. I have 250 six without a/c. The bolt that goes into the block that holds the top alternator bracket fell out. I haven't had much time (long days) to investigate what size bolt would be the replacement, so I thought I would start here.

What size bolt do I need to replace it . . . ie type of thread etc. etc.?
Would a hardware store be a good place to buy a replacement once I know the size?

Thanks in advance for all your help, it's greatly appreciated! :D

No! Go to an auto parts store, you need to use a tempered bolt or it will sheer off in the block. Tell the CD (counter dummy) your application and the size Inliner provided.

Yeah brother, get yourself a tempered or B7 catagory bolt. It'll help in the long run..ZZ

Just so you know -- bolt grades are shown with little radiating lines on the bolt head. You always add two to the number of lines you see. A grade 5 bolt has 3 lines, and standard bolt had NO line (thus a grade 2, I guess) and a grade 7, you guessed it, has 5 lines.

I cannot tell you if a grade 5 is good enough or if you really need a grade 7.

Funny what you remember from your ag class and FFA 25 years ago.

later......

No offense intended stang66200. To me they’re only CDs when they don’t know the answers. Just about all the guys I go to for parts are real knowledgeable, that’s why I keep going back to them.

To tell the truth, the happiest thing I've done lately (since I graduated college), is to quit my job as a CD for Advance.

What a load of crap that place was....
