Howdy Again Dave:

You might want to rethink that move. The Climatic Control air cleaner system on your '72 Maverick is one of FoMoCos better ideas. It is designed to draw heated air from over the exhaust manifold on start up. This facilitates a quicker, smoother warmup. A valve flap then closes and cool ouside air is drawn to the carb for more power and cooler running. The system is managed by vacuum and a bimetal spring that is thermally operated.

The open type chrome air cleaners are primarily designe for 4 barrel carbs with a large opening. So any you would buy would have to have the base adapted you your smaller one barrel carb intake horn. The open element design is lighter and simple, but draws super heated air off of the engine- not what you want.

Another thought is to take the lid and examine it. It may be aluminum. If it is you could strip the paint, polish it and clear coat it. OR-

If it is steel, take it to your local chrome plater and have the stock lid chromed.

Either way you maintain the stock Climatic Control air cleaner intake system. You could improve the function by replacing the stock type element with a K & N unit for about $40. It will only be noticeable at higher rpms or very dusty/dirty conditions.

Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear.
