Holley 5200 Water Choke Q's

I picked up a 5200 Holley carb on ebay -
It is from a 73 (according to the seller) and has a choke that looks like hot water needs to be routed through it, as well as an electric wire coming off the choke housing.

It looks like this carb (but far less expensive...)

Do I really need to route the heater hose through it? I live in San Francisco and it is chilly but not cold....

I was hoping to use an electric choke but can work witht he heater hoses if needed.

Thanks-

While I haven't yet worked out the 5200 on my car, I found info that the later Dodge/Chrysler Omni-HOrizon (maybe K car?) used the 5200 with a regular electric choke instead of the water/elec. on the FOrds. I was going to try one of those . For know I've been leaving the 3 retaining screws loose and rotating the choke by hand while working out the carb setup.

MercuryMarc, the Weber would come with either a water or electric choke. Never seen both. As a matter of fact, I don't know if that would even be possible.

If you have a wire coming off the choke, then use it. Routing a water hose can be ugly.

You don't have any pictures of what you actually bought do you? Someone may have attached a wire to the screw that goes through the water choke. If that's the case, it shouldn't be there. Check out the link below. It's show a water choke setup.

Hope this helps.

Yeah-
I know it sounds crazy...
but there is a single wire going into the choke behind the two water fittings/nipples. The wire attaches to part number 49 on the diagram (at the site you referenced in your email) and looks like it is not really a choke, but I am not sure what it is.
Any thoughts?

As I previously mentioned I haven't worked out all the issues of drivability on my 5200. But I did find a lot of info:

The 70's Fords with 2.3 used the H/W with the water choke and an electric assist element. I have the same setup. I hooked the heater element up and it did eventually open the choke plates but not enough to be useful in itself. I don't know the design theory behind the elec/water combo but I believe it was to get some choke unloading in colder weather before the water reached temp. I'm going to use the full electric element as used on the Plym/Chrys app.

I just changed my water choke to an electric on my Holley 5200. I got it from Electro-Dyn Electronics. All I did was get an electric choke cap and removed the water cap stuff. It's part number 57804. Send an e-mail to Tim Depetris (pdepetris@wzrd.com). Include my name in the e-mail. He sent me a couple of setups at no charge for me to be a guinea pig. Thanks!
I have a fabricated a manual choke lever as well as purchased fittings to tap into the heater hose to connect the water choke. But switching to electric seems the best option- thanks for the lead!
