How much did your exhaust system cost?

Hi, I just talked to a Midas shop in PA about a dual exhaust system for my Mustang. They said $400-425 for the installation. This seems very high. I bought the mufflers on the internet (Borla ProXs), put the header on myself, and removed the old muffler and pipes. They are charging me for the installation of the pipes, mufflers, and chrome exhaust tips. $400 + seems too high. How much did your dual exhaust system cost?

Thanks,

Justin

I installed my headers (6-2's), and removed all of the old exhaust. Went to four different reputable exhaust shops in San Francisco / South SF and all were $500 or more. Nothing special, just regular 2.25" dual pipes with 18" glass packs from the header back with chrome tips.

I got a quote from a shop in town he said 100.oo if I buy the glasspack and pipe

Too much, I bought a set of 2.5 Flowmaster pipes and only installed the left side on my 86. That little 2.3 sure sounds diffrent now!

I spent $280 on a fully welded dual 2" exhaust with all new everything. The quality was unbeliveable, one of the best places in western PA did it.

I spent $70 getting a new single catback exhaust, purchased the cat for $50 and Flowmaster for $50... $170 total.

Yeah, it varies widely! I got 2 Flowmaster mufflers and dual 2 1/2 pipes run all the way out (TRUE duals) and chrome tips for $250 - but I got estimates up $350
I would say NEVER pay more than $350 for pipes, mufflers, and all => let alone just the pipes!

I had the shop put the header on since I didn't want to drive it uncorked that far. I had the mufflers & header already. It cost $450 plus tax & some odds & ends. Just over $500 out the door. If I realized it would be over $1000 to go with headers & dual exhaust, I may have skipped it or gone with the stock manifold & a dual out muffler for the look. I'm not trying to make my car fast so it's not a great way to spend my money since I have other things I could have fixed. Oh well. More power will be nice.

I can't believe I read that some of you have glass packs. I've had them on V8s & it was a bit loud, but good. I put those glasspack sized turbo mufflers on (Heartthrob) & my car sounds like a Honda with a fart can muffler when I'm up over 2-3k rpms. WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY to loud, but I do have a convertible. Unfortunately, they are welded on. I just ordered some 4x9 oval turbo mufflers that are 20" long. That should beef the tone up & bring the volume down. (fingers crossed). Sounds good at idle up to 1200 rpm though. But deafening on the highway.

Cheers,

The glass packs I run on a dual aren't that bad. Well, sometimes. Idle is pretty quiet, normal driving sounds real nice, almost V-8ish. Good rumble. WOT is pretty frickin' loud. Car alarms go off and people behind me back off a bit, but I like it that way. It's still not as loud as the choppers that cruise around the city. I guess that's how I gauge it. And in no way will someone confuse the sound of my car with a ricer fart can.

Way too much!

I had a dual exhaust installed and it was 425.00
but that included all the pipe, install, and two Flowmaster 70 series mufflers which make up most of the above amount.. the labor was like 150.00.

And this was 2" pipe all the way back, the two mufflers, and up and out the valance like a stock GT setup.

Sounds hantastic by the way!

Well I got my new in the box 6into2 Clifford Headers off eBay for $115.00, my local muffler shop welded custom dual 2.25" tailpipes with 22" Allied glass packs and chrome tips all for $260.00, and yes it sounds like a V8 and not like a Jap Fart going down the road.
