Was having immense trouble reinstalling a Toyota 4A distributor recently. Nothing had moved since I took it out, yet it wouldn't go back in. Guess what? I'd screwed the hold-down back on just for safekeeping, and that was blocking it. :P If anyone should know better...

ok, there is no way it will bolt down. I have to original bolt etc, there is no place on the distributor to bolt it in. No metal tab nothing. Should i have taken it off my other one, or what?????? Im at a lose guys!

Well, the bolt doesn't go on the distributor. It goes in the block. That little metal tab clamps down on the edge of the distributor and holds it down onto the block.

I dont have a little metal tab, the bolt has a washer on it, thats all. Is that what holds it down??? If not, you think maybe it fell off when I was pullin the head, if so Im screwed, its in the gras and thats been mowed several time since. Oh well, Ill try and see what I can do.

you need something like that:

ford stockers are made from cast iron, aftermarkets can be made from stamped steel or chromed, or even billet alloy, but basically, it looks the same.
