How to put a tach on

so i went online looking for cool things i could do to my car and i realized i dont have a tach and i want one but not sure how to hook it up or even witch one to get. I was thinking one of those after market ones u can get from autozone or napa.

They are actually quite simple to install. There are only four connections, battery, ground, lights, and tach signal. Just be sure to get a tach that can be set for a six cylinder. Full instructions should come with it.

where does the tach signal come from? somewhere in the eng or in the tranny?

The signal comes from the negative side of the coil in most ignition systems. Some advanced types have a dedicated tach output on an ignition module.
