I 'm having my 200 ci head rebuilt for my 170 block. My machinist has suggested solid lifters, to get better response from the cam.
He mentioned a "noise" would be heard. A noise recognized by the trained ear. My buddies say it's pretty significant.
Anybody got any feedback on this?....ZZ

If the rocker arm and push rod lash is set correctly there is little to zero clattering sound. If done correctly I would expect that you would never hear them.

Dont you need to run a solid profile cam to run solid lifters?

Don't do it. There is no reason you couldn't just install a proper solid cam while you have the head off. This is done to pick a few more HP out of larger V8 engines that are in racing classes which restrict solid cam grinds. The hyd. cam is designed for zero lash, but you'd need a little to allow for expansion and such (and might hear some noise there). You would need to be checking your valve lash about every time you changed your oil.
