or am I. I know I posted different questions about the Ford dizzy and the Pertronix 1261, but bare with me. I talked to a guy at Pertronix today who said I ordered the wrong part, 1261. I should have ordered 1266. This is where everything starts going down hill. I told him I have NAPA part number 482612. He said typical Ford dizzy. Well, that's why I ordered the 1261 Pertronix has listed. It covers 49-74 Ford. 1266 covers the Holley, years 63-67. I have been ordering parts, ie cap, rotor, because I thought that was the load o matic. Everything has worked and the car runs with it on. So, am I lossing my mind or does Pertronix have the thing listed wrong? Be brutally honest, I need closure LOL

Don't get too obsessed with fitting the Pertronix. They usually work fine, but there will be no stunning discovery of "previously lost power".

I believe they mount using the screw and locating pin hole shared with breaker points. If the fit is close but not there, some filing of the Pertronix base pin may be in order. If it's way off, then evidently the unit is not made for your distributor.

Do you have any objection to "upgrading" with a Duraspark, or even choosing one of the DIY options like a TFI module and coil?

Binary signal from breaker points - according to GFFL, you can run the TFI module, too.

Addo, no objection at all with the ds2 mod. I just have the Pertronix sitting in my hand. I figured I would use it

well, I hacked away on the base of the Pertronix unit. Made it fit. And she fired right up. Do I need to regap, as in bigger? I thought I read that some where

you can go up to .050 or .055 is it? I ran 50 on my pertronix. really woke the car up

I think if you had to grind away on the pertronix, to fit your distributor then you had the wrong unit. I had one for my Load-a-Matic and do not recall it needing to be ground. I then bought a later model distributor and planned on using the Load-a-matic pertoronix unit. I was attempting to grind the base of the pertronix unit and I slipped and cut the wires right where they entered the unit. It would have fit had I been more careful. I ended up buying a new unit for the later model distributor.
With regards to gapping? Are you talking about the pertronix or the plugs. You will need to set the gap of the pertronix unit. You will also need to re-time the ignition as changing from point to the pertronix changes the timing.
You can also widen the plug gap as previously mentioned.

I know I had the wrong unit. Got into an arguement with the guy at Pertronix about it. I was tired of dealing with them. I made it fit, set the gap on the unit and it fired right up. I was really just talking about the plug gap. Thanks for the responses.
