Installing second carburetor (dual action, babe!)

On my '77 log there are two large flat spots right above #2 & #5 intakes. Is that a good spot to put both carburetors?

I'm going to be using two 32/36 carburators w/ adaptor. I think it would be easier for me to go this route because I would just need to drill out two holes in the intake rather than two slots. Or would a metal jig saw blade cut the cast iron head?

i have a question about that as well...what do u do about the kickdown rod setup if u have the kind that is attached to the head and covers the last couple cylinders?

i think the log might be too shallow for a jigsaw blade, unless you're thinking of something other than i am

i think that's how it's been done before, i'm not sure who did it though
i want to say Mustang Geezer, but i know that he mounted plates on his intake, so i don't think it was him...
 
CobraSix showed us how to do the 3 carb Offy coversion. Just grab some plastercine from a model shop, and make up mock up of a plate to cover the existing hole, and then go out to between ports 4 and 5 and 2 and 3. Copy the height of the Stovebolt adaptor.

Buy aluminum plate, and have it milled down to copy the plastercine. You could use DAS, Newtech (fibreglass body filler) or some fired clay to get a dimensionally stable result. Follow the Offy pricipals, but on a two carb basis!

The carbs are very adjustable, and linking them won't be much of an issue.

Drill two 1.5" holes right through, and tidy with a die grinder (air operated) The centre studs can hold the alloy
 
i cant seem to find the pics now but one of the forum members up in the Seattle area has done this same modification on a 200. If I remember correctly ducktang sent me the pics.. thank goodness for typing, I know where to find the pics now..

Also if I remember correctly he is running 305 pistons and this motor is used for racing, now if only I could remember the member's name that owns this beast..

I'm not sure about the porting on that head, but its gotta be better than stock.

The OHC 4-cyl Ford carbs are sequentially opening. The best point of entry, in my opinion, is between the two holes above, via a funnel adaptor. It should ensure the mixture is evenly distributed. 'Unevern distribution is an abomination to the Log', to paraphrase Proverbs 20:10

The six cylinder valve opening is a fast motion event compared to a four cylinder engine, and I'm not sure the ports to cylinders 2,3 4 and 5 wont take the most of the fuel from 1 and 6. The 32/36 would have priority to number five and number 2 under part throttle, so it could starve and then over supply at various stages. Under wide open throttle, it may favour 5 and 3.

So let me get this straight X, you are saying using the adapters for the 32/36 is a good idea if I choose duel carburation, right? And the location should, as I previously mentioned, above #2 & #5 cylinders?

I'd install the carbs right in between cyl # 2 and 3 , and the other between cylinder # 4 and 5.

That spot will work well.
