intercooler design?

like I said I am passing on this one....well seeing how the tanks are welded to the core on the mismatchone I would assume it could be welded?

the cores I am planning on using are bar and plate. HUGE openings on them

I mean the pieces you use for scrap to bend and form, not all aluminum is weldable

I measured all the angles in front of the radiator, and Ive got the same problem as fairlane. Too many obstacles concerning the grill assembly. I can remove most of these if I go to hoodpins, but after thinking thru the rest of the install I found a few other problems. I may have to install a pusher fan to fit the 250 behind the radiator. Won't know until it's in there. Regardless it means butchering the radiator support, which doesn't bother me that much. Relocate the battery to the trunk to allow for plumbing.

I looked at the area below the front cross member and it just looks dangerous. All it would take is one squirrel and poof.

As far as these ebay universal units, you can tell they are imports. Do you suppose they are junk? One of the units I felt I could make work was $130 buy it now. That seems pretty cheap.

Getting creative with mounting for an air-to-air, the trick is to have air flow, so it limits alternatives to front mounting. I have a '67 Shelby hood with about 20 sq. in. of opening. I don't think there is any way I could engine bay mount anything that would work with that.

I wish I had your fab skills Fairlane! Just fit it around everything that's in the way and move on!

I am a total hack.

my big problem is trying to fit a decent sized core behind the grill and stone deflector. if I went with something like a volvo core with dirrent tanks on it that might work out pretty good too.

NO. Lots of mustang and camaro guys use them, the most popular are

24" width x 12" high x 3" thick

and 18" width x 12" high x 3" thick, which is what mine is.

The 24" wide core ones have been proven to 700 HP!! Mine is the same end tanks (same flow) , but narrower.

I wonder if you can fit one of these? "buy it now" is $109 (plus shipping)

Be careful with shipping!!
It is $40 for pretty much any intercooler on eBay.

it might fit.....maybe I will go steal some cardboard from the recycle bin at work and get to it with some tape and fab up a dummy one to play with...only got 8 hours of work left today...

I only mention this because no one has, but you could use coolant to "cool" the charge. I was blown away this summer when I saw that most (if not all) Vortech coolers are liquid - gas exchangers. Scroll down a little on the link and you'll see a couple they use for their kits. I think the main reason for using coolant is for mounting reasons- it's alot easier route to take when space is limited.
