Is my alternator too far away?

I have noticed that most of the alternators are placed in an approximately vertical plane regarding top to bottom bracket bolts. Is it okay to run it as far out as I have mine in the pics? I wanted to stay as far away from the heat of the headers as possible...I have a bracket for a large block chevy cut down to fit---so I can have the clearance.

Does the pulley spin and does your charging system work okay? =) Your alt will probably just last longer. I don't see a problem with it, looks kinda cool!

That looks like a good idea. My stock adjustment arm leaves my alternator a little close for comfort on my headers. May be coping your idea.

now seeing this im gonna guess that the stock belt wont work with the alt farther away like that so my question is wut belt r y gonna be using

Heh...a longer one. Probably trial and error fitment, the parts house has pretty much all lengths in one inch increments. At least my home-town Napa does.
