Is this a Holly 1940? What about the "double pumper&qu

I just installed a '78 200 into my '61 Falcon. Short term I intent to run one of the that came off of a previous engine core. Really short term I will be running my 1904 until I get one of these carbs rebuilt.

I have two similar carbs but one has 2 pumps? What is up with that? Which of these two carbs is preferred for a bone stock '78? I have a .jpg of the two carbs side by side but I can't figure out how to up load them to this posting - pointers please.

What are the visual cues between a Holly and Carter carb. The two carbs do not have a name or tag on them

So, what have I got here as to the two carbs and which one would be preferred?

I am new at this uplinking photos (thanks for the refernce link Patrick66) so here goes: http://s290.photobucket.com/albums/ll27 ... _my_albums

So what have I got? Which one do I rebuild? Temporarily running my old 1904 on my '78 200 w/ a '66 distributor. Also have a non=loadomatic '78 dist available if better w/ the carb. Long term I will run a Weber 32/36 but that is aWinter project and I need to use the car daily right now.

If I am not mistaken, they are both autolite 1100 carbs. Carb #1 (the one on the left in your photo) looks to be a manual choke carb with a SCV (spark control valve), that is compatible with a Load-a-matic distributor; I believe it is for use with a manual transmission as well!?? Carb #2 (the carb on the right) is an automatic choke style carb, and this carb appears to be for an automatic transmission, I believe. I do not believe the 2nd carb is for use with a Load-a-matic distributor, but I could be mistaken; I am sure somebody else will jump in and correct me on any mistakes I made in trying to identify your carbs. Jim

Aribert, I took a little closer look at your photos, and it looks like maybe there is a SCV (spark control valve) on carb #2 as well; which means that with the SCV it also would be compatible with the Load-a-matic distributor (an orginal distributor on a 61' Falcon, I believe). You mention you are installing a 78' engine and I am guessing that it probably has a Duraspark distributor (electronic ignition) which "MAY" not be compatible with the SCV type carbs you have. Again, I am sure somebody else will weigh in here and give you a 2nd opinion. Good Luck! Jim

Thanks for the info James.

I am using a '66 distributor at the moment, but I also have a freshly rebuilt '73 point distributor available. I have a manual trans - is one carb preferred over the other?

I was guessing that these were Holly 1940s - glad I asked prior to ordering a carb kit.

the 66 distributor should be a load-o-matic, so it will work with either of those. since theyre the same, neither is really preferred over the other, just depends on whether you want a manual choke (hand choke) or automatic choke. if you have headers the hand choke will be easier.

what are you doing with the other 1100?

Your carbs are both Autolite 1100s. The left one obviously is a manual choke model. The right one has two diaphrams and is thus an automatic transmission carb. One diaphram is a dash pot and the other an antistall.

If you plan to get rid of either one, let me know!

Here's a pic of a 1904 just for your information:

The left one is a Holley 1904, the right one is an Autolite 1100. Note: Both are modified so not all the parts you might expect to see will be there.

Harry.

Again thanks for the info on the Autolite 1100 carbs. I'll spend some time at lunch today surfing for info on it. I'll rebuild one for manual trans and manual choke. This is intended as a stop gap - I really want a Weber but I do not have the time to sort thru one at the moment (though I already have a couple of cores) - ideally I'll find the time this coming winter. I'll get back with both of you that are interested in the extra carb - once I have one functioning then the spare is redundant for me.

As I write this posting, I am sitting in my '61 Falcon in a visitor parking lot at the GM Tech Ctr in Warren, MI; accessing the Wi-Fi from a public library across the street (I am temporarily on site here at GM, have a desk, GM e-mail etc but this forum is blocked from a commercial security perspective - thats why I use the wi-fi from the parking lot). Who could have imagined the technology and information access /available to us back when our cars were new!

I found the fact that this forum is blocked from the GM internal network to be kind of funny. Since this site is not a security concern to most web filtering products I am aware of, I can't help but wonder if the "Ford" in the name is why GM blocks it.
