I feel as though this might have been asked before but searching turned up no results.

I went out today to find a K&N filter assembly for my 1966 200ci Mustang, and I went to 3 different automotive shops and said K&N didnt make a filter for my application..?

But I know i've seen people here with K&Ns... any tips?

take in your old filter, find out where the K&N filters are, then go through them and match one of the correct height, diameter, and thickness

or try goin to their website and searching for the universal sizes

I don't like the K&N filters - they are too porous and let too much small dust through. I would just get a good Napa (wix) or purolator filter.

I have heard that K & N filters keep the rocks out & flow more, but if you have a vehicle which is driven in dusty areas that you are better with a filter from napa-wix or a quality paper filter.

A word to the wise, if you have a late model vehicle with a mass air flow sensor, do not over oil your K & N filter or is not recommended that you use that oil filled gause filter at all.

The K & N has been known to cause failures in mass air flow sensors. William

dont we just love it when they say "no such thing" every time they can´t find something in their computers?

stock 66 filter element dimensions are 9.90"OD x 7.96"ID x 2.26"tall, and yes, K&N actally makes a filter in that dimensions.

I wouldn´t recomment it for extended offroad use only, where severe dust conditions might become a problem.

I fourth the motion of no K&N.

I ran one in my Volvo and my 99 mustang. I took it out of my volvo after about 6 months. My brother gave it to me for christmas so I at least had to try it. While I can not directly link it, with the 99 Mustang was moved out to San Diego, 2 months later I'm getting faulty Mass Air Flow sensor readings. I switched back to a paper filter. I haven't gotten the MAF fixed yet. Like I said, I'm not sure if it's anymore more then coincedence.

I've got a K&N in the '68 (not a stock 6cyl housing though) and it has not caused any problems with MY mass air flow sensor  I got it on sale many moons ago at 1/2price and have no plans to quit using it anytime soon.

My neighbor races dirt oval track (dont remember class but I think its one lower then Wissota) Basically the same chassis but not an alchy motor. he runs K&N and I would think those guys would have a clue as to what works in dirty conditions. Of course I have no data to back it these statements but somebody needed to offer a different perspective on the engine ruining filters..
