Larger valves

I'm not quite sure why you're asking, but from the point of view of someone in a country where such stuff is hard to get, I found there are a couple of options.

First was good quality aftermarket valves from Asia, the other option was stuff like Summit sell. Neither was suited in overall length, so they need shortening, stellite tipping and then a new retainer groove grinding in. Not exactly straightforward!

Of course if you could find something close in length, there would be the option of milling or packing the rocker shaft, and using custom pushrods.

Regards, Adam.

Well, Adam,
Sounds like I'd wind up paying more for non stainless, after all that machining, than it would to get a set of the stainless ones. God! I can remember when valves cost a buck apiece!

Asian valves?! Cripe! Any self respecting Mustang would need "anti rejection" drugs added to the oil to keep the things in place

Why's that? All your other replacement parts are made in china...

It sort of hurts to say it, but the best universals and bearing shells I've seen, are from Japan. Incredible microfinishes. Other parts of Asia and "Asia Minor" - I am less confident about consistency, based on experience. They may well get there, yet.

After working at a small engines shop 2 stroke & 4 stroke mini/dirt bikes etc. I would have to absolutely agree.

Well, OK, maybe a country that can build "Voltron" can also turn out a set of good bearings. Nice thing about doing an old Mustang is that at least the stuff LOOKS American :) . Hope it doesn't come from old stockpiles of reworked "Betty" bomber parts.

I'm planning to send an order in to Classic Inlines on April Fools day. Then I can turn loose the machinist!

:D Well IIRC the "Bettys"were made by Mitsubishi. They build a pretty good product. And they have been around since IIRC 1823.

The person that did my 200 valve job used some stock Pontiac valves, but I don't remember from which model engine. They were the largest that we could cut seats into the head without weakening it.
