Morning all just thought I would share some information.
So I have just completed my trip round Germany in my 59 Edsel
Engine 223
1904 carb
Load o matic distributor
Pertronix ignition
Two speed trans
356-1 rear axle
Tyre size 215/75-14
Total trip miles 2452
2.5ltr oil used
622ltr fuel E10 95 octane
Total fuel price £948
Best mpg 18.46 (imperial gallon)
Worst mpg 14.94
Average 17.91
Highway speed average 70mph
Top speed 78
Overall had a cracking trip she sits happy on the highway at 70mph .
She did struggle at times with some mountain road mainly because she is a two speed .
Only fault we had was when we lost steering but managed to fix in around 2.1/2 hours thanks to a German man stopping and offering use of his work shop .
We even got spotted in a carpark and the picture sent to a edsel page

Great trip! Nothing like traveling in a classic 😎😎. Was it by yourself or a group?Reminds me of our participation in the Key West Power Cruise. A week long, 6 or 8 car shows and a police escorted cruise through Key West.
Nothing like Europe though 👍

E10, how did the fuel system go with that, ethanol can be corrosive, I found e10 to be an excellent solvent. 2.5 litres of oil is fairly high, but you must have been nearly flat out at 70mph.

That’s amazing! I love to hear of the 223s chugging on and putting in work! Hard to hear a mileage maker/cost clipper. I’ve recently decided to get the courage to take on road trips with my 223 as well, nothing quite like your excursion! 615 miles, 39 gallons of gas, 55-60 3 speed averaging 15.5. Planning on another 6-1000 mile trip this weekend as well! Much love from America, keep us updated in Germany!

No worries with the E10 all the fuel system is new oil wise I did not think that was bad if you allow for the odd leaks 😁
Speed wise I have had up to 85 in the past with possible a little to go but gets a little unsettled

It's fun keep getting your trips in.
we are based in Nottingham in the UK we have done a few long runs in her the first was to south France about 9 years ago that was about 2000 miles and the 2nd was the nc500 that's a coastal run around Scotland that was around 1800 .
The Germany run was planned before COVID but obviously it got delayed

That’s great! I’m sure you took the back roads as well. We did a trip around England and Scotland in the spring of 2023. Trip of a lifetime for us!! We went right by you in Nottingham, from Hull on the way to Sennen Cove. We stayed one night in Nottingham area. We could’ve had a pint🍻

Cheers!! Sadly it won’t be any time soon😩

Ever get down to Sennen Cove? Great little place for a holiday! Not as touristy as lands end and you can get a great pasti at the local store!😋
