I am looking for a manual choke kit for a Holley/Weber 5200 carb.. I bought one from Holley but it is for the 2300/4150 carbs... it does not fit the 5200...

I called NAPA and they sell a universal kit? I am going over there tomorrow but was wondering if you all have any suggestions first....

I was also told an electric choke would work, but I have everything for a manual choke.... I like the idea of a manual choke, eliminates the hassles of adjusting it with weather changes... right now it has a water heated choke on it, well it did I removed it this morning....

Any ideas would be appreciated...

Jimbo,

You bought Part #: 45-225, Is it the mounting plate holes that don't line up with the holes in the carb body? Can you remove the mounting plate from your old choke and re-use it?

You got it, the holes on the manual choke kit swing plate do not line up with the holes in the housing, but then again this thing is very confusing to setup and there are no diagrams...

I have the Holley Haynes Manual and found it run on a 2300 I will make an attempt to try using the existing housing, but it is very different for the water choke, not sure how to adapt that? I will play around with it tomorrow.... maybe post a few pics?

If anyone has some pics or ideas?

Yes it was HLY-45-225

I got a universal manual choke kit from Auto Zone for about $6 when I converted the Ranger to a H/W 5200. The only issue was finding a place to mount the cable clamp. I now have an '83 Ranger without the computerized carb--- basically the top end off a '74 Mustang II: 2.8L V6 that still passes emissions, though it's a little under-carbed. Better gas mileage, too! Anyway, I'd take the water choke piece to auto Zone or Checker or someplace and see if the kit matches the screw holes to the carb.

I finally got an answer to the email I sent Holley a week ago: ( not much help)

Hello,

a choke conversion kit for the 5200 model. Please check with us in the
future for new product release and other performance needs.

Will a Manual Choke Conversion Kit Part #: 45-225 for carburetor models
2300, 4150 and 4160 with choke hardware mounting bosses on side of main
body work on a model 5200 carburator? and if so what do I need to do to
get it to fit?

Thanks,

12.00 at NAPA, for a universal choke kit....

It mounts to the existing choke housing, all I did was use the little lead ball in the Holley kit to block off the vacume passage.

The kit has a new cap in it and you install the cap and a swing arm that goes over the choke lever in the existing housing. Then you install a lever on the outside and run the cable... it was very easy to setup, but is a little cheap looking, I am not 100% it will hold up, I sure wish Tom at Stovebolt had other options besides the water choke, I am not thrilled with that design at all.....

I am still working on this, and I am also trying to fab an adapter for the 2300 kit, I think if I can come up with a mounting bracket for the manual housing it would work. The parts are mostly brass, and it is well designed and looks durable. I will let you know how it all works out....

I am also planning in changing to a 2300 down the line, but this carb was 65.00 vs. 250.00 and money is getting tight.

So I can play with this one and add more later.... Plus I might find I like the 5200 and decide to keep it permanent. I will have to come up with something better if I do.
