I have a 64 ford falcon convertible that has been completely messed up by an unskilled mechanic.

I need someone who KNOWS ford falcons and can help diagnose and plan
a strategy to repair this car.

The botched job was a manual to automatic transmission swap and 170 straight six to 200 engine swap.

I'm in Echo Park and the car is currently in Sun Valley.

thanks,

can you post some pictures and describe a little more so that i or somone else can help you.I live in monrovia ca not more than 45 minutes from the car. :D

The problems with this engine/transmission
swap are multiple:

Rust in radiator fluid, black oil, thumping (unbalanced drive shaft?) at speeds over 50, fabricated/wrong linkage resulting in no pedal power. Exhaust filling the car, Plus about a dozen other things.

Overall, the work is completely haphazard. The mistakes need to be undone and I need a strategy to go forward.

Thanks.

Are you looking for a completely "hands off" approach, or someone to collaborate with on some aspects as a DIY project?

LA-area people who generally know what they're doing include Jett's Pony and ludwig.

As the driveline is basically the same as a Mustang, a shop familiar with these could do much of the work without issue.

Aside from that, first thing to examine is your engine and trans mounts. Then you might look at driveshaft/rear end alignment. From that point, there's the exhaust leak (muffler shop territory) but you might want to sort the trans first. An aftermarket cable kickdown could be the quickest way to deal with that part of your linkages.

It may also be of benefit to browse a little on a couple of other boards - especially Inliners International and HAMB. One or the other might offer a link to a close and reliable shop that won't ream you.

Regards, Adam.

There are a couple garages in the San Fernando Valley that specialize in Mustangs. A Falcon/Comet would not be a stretch. Try Mustangs Etc. It is a full service garage specializing in Mustangs, just off the 405 in Van Nuys. They can fix it or point you in the right direction. For the front end, there is Lloyds in La Crescenta. They have an old fashioned pit and Lloyd himself likes to work on the old cars. I have a transmission specialist in Sun Valley, SK Performance transmission shop on Glenoaks or was it San Fernando road. He rebuilt my C4 and got the hydraulic clutch working properly on my Jeep. He does specialty rigs too.
