Hi guys,
I recently purchased a TF ghia from ebay for a mere $300. It runs on straight gas, has a tow bar, Air con, power steer, K-mac sway bars front & rear (as well as the standard rear), Pedders lowered gas shocks all round & is rather a neat & tidy package. The plates came with the car (LPG-250) it was only a month out of rego & I even picked up a 6 cylinder C4 auto with it. Well I took it for a pink slip today and got knocked back for a few minor things which is terrific news. I didnt expect it to pass but was expecting alot more repairs needed than was found. I just wanted a complete inspection so I could see exactly how much it would need for roadworthy/rego. I asked the mechanic to go right over it and this is what he did. Repairs needed are:

Rear door wouldnt open from the inside
(Was just the child proof lock lol)

A few rust bubles on rear 1/4's & rear N/S door
(knew this was a problem but will be doing it tomorrow)

O/S rear tyre was below limit
(getting this monday)

N/S ball joint needed replacing
(getting done tuesday morning)

Pretty excited as the whole car will end up owing me approx $1000 with 12 months rego.

Cheers John!

Hi guys,
Has been awhile...

I have recently purchased a 1 owner TD cortina with 98 thousand on the clock. The thing is immaculate. I am in the process of doing this car up while the old LPG-250 is still being driven daily. However I have a few quick questions...

Any chance that the power steering from the TF will change over to the TD?

Any chance that the shocks/springs & sway bars from the TF will fit the TD?

I thought I would ask here before mucking around :P

The

Power steerinf changed with the TF, as the whole front end is different.

Best bet is to raid an old Hyudai Stella, and grab the power steering unti form it. Straight bolt-in!

We dont have these Hyundai Stella's over here in aussie land. Are they readily available over there in New Zealand?

How much would a wrecker charge for the powersteering set up?

And how much would it be for postage?

I this the best way for me to get power steering?

Thanks. I'd absolutely love it if my tc had power steering.

The Germans, Argentinians, South Africans and English/Kiwis made the TC, TD, TE, and TF Taunus/Cortina.

The Koreans made Cortinas since 1974. After 1983, they made Hyundai Stellas. These came standard with Cortina V6 power steering.

The V6 Cortina, a TF sold in 1980 to 1984 in NewZealand and Britian, had standard power steering which would fit any Aussie TC or TD.

All the bits interchange with the early Aussie TC and TD Cortinas. The sixes used bigger bushing joints but as long as you use the stock bushes that came with the body, the whole steering, or indeed the total IFS itself fits.

Regarding the steering, any Hyundai Stella power steering unit fits the TC, or TD Cortinas.

Aussie TE and TF's were totally re-engineered for the heavy cross flow sixes. None of the Korean or Kiwi bits fit OZ TE/TF's becasue they are all based on the TD cross memeber.

Source is best found from Auckland. Someone there will send a Hyundai Stella power steering unit over if you have a secure money order.

I have a Cortina V6 power steering rack, but it is a keeper for another project, and has a CNC machined 225 stainless top carrier for strength. The Hyundai steering is upgraded, but uses the same mounting points as the TC/TD Cortina.
