Well...
part of my Cliffy port divider is now in my catalytic converter, making a mess of the little honeycomb...

We even heated up the whole head and divider to 225 degrees after grinding the divider to fit, then welded it in, just like Cliffy's picture.

One side of it broke off and moved out. Guess it didn't like the climate. Interesting part was, I was on the highway at the time and IMMEDIATELY knew something was up - it really does work - I dropped from 82 MPH to 78 or so, just like that. (82 seems to be a legal freeway speed here, for all I can tell...)

What other ways have you guys successfully held these things in? I want another one.

Mark - Mine was welded in I haven't had a problem with it. Sounds almost like your port divider may have had a casting defect. :(

Slade - What type of epoxy did you use, where'd ya get it and how much? How long have you had it in there with no problems?

I've had about a year of use on it, I used epoxy from www.cotronics.com. I think it was Resbond 907? I'll be pulling the head off this winter to replace it with the Aussie Head sitting in my office. I'll let you know how it looks.

Cost $26 for 3-4oz tubes of it. way too much for this ( you may need 1/10 of one tube), but still cheaper then any machine shops I've found. Also, it's real easy to fill in the cracks and grind it smooth.

Biggest problem I've seen with people using High temp epoxy, is they assume JB Weld is high temp epoxy. Most stuff you buy in the Auto stores is good up to PEAK of 500*, usually constant of 300*F. I took a thermal imager once to my exhaust manifold, and outside temps on the manifold were 250-350*F easily on the surface of the manifold IIRC. I may do it again to take a look and compare it to the headers I'll be getting soon. The stuff I mentioned is good for constant 2300*F and peak of 3000F. We used to use it on gas turbine exhaust leaks.

Hey Slade,
What ya doin with your old head when you replace it? Any info on it, I might be in the market for a new head sometime soon to keep around when I go turbo. Lemme know! Sorry, back to the divider topic, mine has stayed in just fine and was welded, but its only been on the road for a little, so we shall see as time passes.

Yeah, I'm afeared it may have had some kind of flaw in it. Just one side broke off. I was surprised at the difference in power it made - I guess Cliffy figured that one pretty well. Interestingly, though, it has not affected the smoothness, which has been wonderful after the head re-do (once I found the strange distributor cap... :? ).

I think I will try drilling it and tapping into the part that is still there, then try your epoxy trick, Slade. Maybe between the two.... I don't even want to think about trying to weld that thing while on the engine, and don't really want to pull the head again, now that it runs so smooooth.

Thanks, guys!
