Hi everybody, can someone lend me advice on checking the operation of the vacum mechanical advance? 200ci, auto, ignitor.
..........................................................................................................

thanks for the help. Ipurchased a new vacum controler, installed a flamethrower, and correctly powered the ignitor to 12v switched(thanks to helpful hints from fordsix users. My maother has had the car for about 7 years now, and I don't think the advance was ever operational. She always complained that is was a daaaawg. Now he (the car's name is Lucky) has quite a bit more 'pep'. Thanks again.

pretty easy to check. remove the distributor cap and rotor so you can see the points. Next, disconnect the vacuum line at the carb. then, apply a vacuum to the line. You can just suck on the end of the line. You shoould see the point plate move as you apply vacuum. It should also hold vacuum. If not, you need to replace the advance canister.
